The current standings are updated through Friday’s Rome Golden League meet. At this point of the season, each athlete’s best five races are totaled (one of which may be in a different event).
100 meters
1. Allyson Felix, USA, 75
2. Kerron Stewart, JAM, 69
2. Veronica Campbell-Brown, JAM, 69
4. Sherone Simpson, JAM, 67
5. Muna Lee, USA, 66
6. Sheri-Ann Brooks, JAM, 62
7. Marshavet Hooker, USA, 61
8. Angela Williams, USA, 51
9. Torri Edwards, USA, 50
10. Lauryn Williams, USA, 49
Campbell-Brown missed a major scoring opportunity by finishing fourth at the Jamaican Championships, otherwise she would likely be #1 in this event. Felix is in the top spot based on her strong showings in the Doha Super GP meet back in May and in the Olympic Trials 200.

Race Preview: NYRR New York Mini 10k
Posted June 6th, 2008 at 1:30 PM by Stephanie Lowe
Section: News & Results, Olympics, Road Racing
In preparation for the August 17 Beijing Olympic Marathon, all three members of the United States women’s team, Deena Kastor, Magdalena Lewy-Boulet and Blake Russell, will race in the NYRR New York Mini 10k. The New York Road Runners event starts in Central Park this Saturday, June 7, at 9:00 a.m. Kastor, Lewy-Boulet and Russell will be joined by some of the world’s top female distance runners, including Aziza Aliyu of Ethiopia, Madaí Pérez of Mexico and Hilda Kibet of the Netherlands.
The New York Mini 10k is exclusively for women and offers prize money ranging from $1,500 to $10,000 for the top five finishers. The race also offers prize money to the top five U.S. athletes ($500 to $5,000) and allows double dipping, which means if an American wins, she will receive $15,000.
Without five-time champion Lornah Kiplagat in the field, Kastor, 35, who won in 2004, will have the odds in her favor for reclaiming the title. However, Kibet, 27, has been training with Kiplagat, her cousin, and recently ran 10000-meter times of 31:01 and 30:55.61.

Running During Pregnancy: How Safe Is It?

Section: Running & Training, Training Tips, Health & Fitness, Exercise
Many women, after learning they’re pregnant, worry about the weight gain that is associated with it. It is not uncommon for some women to put on twenty to thirty pounds during their pregnancy, which, as you already know, can be tough to lose down the road.
Because of this fact, some women try to keep up their workout program for as long as they can in an effort to minimize the weight gained and stay in shape. Is this really a healthy thing to do?
A study that was recently published by the British Medical Journal involved more than 92,000 women who kept up their usual workout program while pregnant. The results showed that those who were involved in more high-impact types of activities had a much higher chance of experiencing a miscarriage than those who took a more moderate approach to their exercise training.

Sports Bra 101
Posted September 22nd, 2006 at 12:50 PM by Martha Jones
Section: Gear & Apparel, Apparel
For all of us female runners out there, an effective sports bra is just about as important as any other piece of our running equipment. They ensure that we are comfortable and pain free (at least up there) while running, prevent sagging later in life and make us feel more confident.
In addition, it is essential that you purchase sports made of neoprene or other moisture-wicking fabrics in order to keep you dry and to prevent painful chafing. Some Body Glide can also be helpful to ensure that no chafing occurs while running.
According to “Running4Women” , a proper and good-fitting sports bra will:
[F]it snugly without the rib band restricting breathing, it should give a smooth outline without unsightly bulges over the cups or around your back, and the straps need to be wide enough to support the breast without causing ridges on your shoulders.
