The International Olympic Committee faces a tricky decision this week when they meet in Lausanne, Switzerland to determine the fate of Marion Jones’ 5 Olympic medals from the 2000 Sydney Games. Australian 400m Runner Steffenson Under Investigation for Verbal Assault
Australian 400m runner John Steffensen, apparently stilled peeved because he didn’t gain one of the coveted “automatic selection” slots for the Beijing Olympics, verbally assaulted track and field selection panel member Glynis Nunn-Cearns, winner of the 1984 Olympic gold medal in the heptathlon. James Koskei overcame cold, windy and wet conditions to win the Dallas White Rock Marathon in 2:15:07. He won $35,000 in prize money – $10K for 1st place and $25K for winning the gender challenge, in which he overcame an 18 minute, 35 second head-start that was given to the women. White Rock Marathon Reaches Capacity, Closes Registration

Wellstone's Dallas White Rock MarathonOfficials with Wellstone’s Dallas White Rock Marathon (WDWRM) presented by NexBank announced today they have reached capacity and closed registration for the 2007 marathon. Pre-race registration was higher than in previous years and race officials capped the total number of participants at 15,000. There will be no on-site registration this year.

McDougal runs indoor 5000m in 13:45
Josh McDougal, a senior at Libery and winner ofthe 2007 NCAA Cross-Country Championships, ran an indoor 5000m time of 13:45.16 at the Liberty Kickoff. His time was good for first place and it earned him an automatic birth in the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships which will be held at the University of Arkansas on March 14-15, 2008. Wanjiru Runs 2:06:39 Debut Marathon in Fukuoka
Kenyan Samuel Wanjiru, the world record holder in the half-marathon, won his debut marathon in Fukuoka with an outstanding 2:06:39, a course record time. Deriba Merga of Ethiopia finished 2nd in 2:06:50, a PB by over 6 1/2 minutes and also under the previous course record of 2:06:51. Atsushi Sato of Japan was third in 2:07:13, also a PB. Wanjiru’s time is the 3rd fastest in the world in 2007 and ties him with fellow Kenyans William Kipsang and Felix Kimo as the 28th fastest marathoner of all time.Read more at: [IAAF]

Blazing-Fast Fukuoka Marathon Expected
Samuel Wanjiru, the world record holder in the half-marathon, will be making his debut in the marathon at Fukuoka. He hopes to break Atsushi Fujita’s course record of 2:06:51. Fujita and Toshinari Takaoka, the Japanese national record holder at 2:06:16, will be challenging Wanjiru for the victory. It should be one of the 4 fastest marathons of 2007Read more at: [IAAF]

Race Recap: 37th Annual Dallas White Rock Marathon

dallas-white-rock-marathon.jpgThe cold and rain did nothing to stop the determination of the 10,317 runners at the 37th annual Dallas White Rock Marathon; a race that led to two new marathon records.

Kenyan Moses Kororia finished the race in 2:12:04; breaking Jeff Lodwick’s 24 year record of 2:12:18. Kororia was also able to overtake Russia’s Svetlana Ponomarenko a few yards before the 24th mile to win an additional $25,000.
