adidas has launched a new website focused on adidas-sponsored athletes who are likely to compete in the Olympic Games across the full spectrum of sports. The site, roadstobeijing.com, includes athlete profiles, videos, photos, blogs (still in development) and polls.
“Most of us only get to see the athletes in the competitive arena and, understandably, rarely fully appreciate what it takes to get to the top of their sport,” said Jocelyn Robiot, adidas’s head of global sports marketing through a media release. “RoadstoBeijing.com breaks new ground and offers a unique insight into that journey.”

RUNNING STATS
Closes Its Doors

After nearly 23 years, RUNNING STATS, has ceased publication, according to editor and publisher, Paul Christman.
“As your diarist’s tenure with Running Stats draws to a close, it’s been a good run,” Christman wrote on his website in a brief farewell message where he thanked his many correspondents.
RUNNING STATS was for years a paper newsletter sent through the mail and was the only timely source of elite distance running results. Christman relied on the support of race directors who not only purchased his newsletter but paid for his travel to their events to provide coverage. Christman once told me that he had brought out to the Honolulu Marathon 18 times, one of distance running’s all-time great records.
Although many relied on Christman for results, even more looked forward to his grand writing style and witty headlines. Like when Flomena Chepchirchir won the recent half-marathon in Dordrecht, Christman’s headline read, “FLO CHARTS ANOTHER.”

IAAF Fantasy Athletics Game: Osaka 2007

I’ve never been one to join fantasy sports leagues. I’ve just never seen the point. In fact, I’ve never been much of a joiner, period. Perhaps that individualistic streak is an inherent trait in runners.
Now that the IAAF is starting up a fantasy “game” for Osaka, however, I might just have to reevaluate the whole concept. After all, it seems painless enough: from August 25th, 2007 through September 2nd, 2007 I just have to pick the athletes I think will score points during finals at Osaka’s 11th IAAF World Championships in Athletics. Each day of the competition, the person with the highest points total will win an Osaka 2007 t-shirt autographed by a competitor at the world championships. Nice.
