Reigning Olympic gold medalist Jeremy Wariner and triple World Outdoor champion Allyson Felix headline the American contingent for the 2008 Qatar Super Grand Prix Friday, May 9, in Doha, Qatar.
A two-time World Outdoor 400 meter champion, Wariner will step down in distance, looking to improve on his personal best of 20.19 in the 200m. He will face stiff competition from 2007 World Outdoor 400m silver medalist LaShawn Merritt, who has already run a windy 19.80 (+3.2 mps) so far this year.
Felix, a two-time World Outdoor champion over 200m, will officially open her outdoor season at Doha and will try to repeat her 100-400 win from 2007. This is the fourth year in a row that she has opened up her season at the Qatar Super Grand Prix.

Six of the top 10 women pole vaulters in the world are scheduled to compete in the Norwich Union London Grand Prix meet at Crystal Palace on Friday, August 3rd, 2007 in what promises to be a preview of the world championships in Osaka next month.
Yelena Isinbayeva of Russia, the world-record holder at 5.01m (16′ - 5 2/10″) has the world’s best jump in 2007 with a 4.91m (16′ - 1 3/10″) mark set in Paris on June 7th. She is the favorite to win, both in London and Osaka.
American Jenn Stuczynski, back after almost 5 weeks with a back injury, has the number two mark in the world in 2007 which she posted before her injury. Having competed in her first post-injury race this week in Jockgrim, Germany, her comeback looks promising.
At that meet, she cleared meet records of 4.46m (14′ - 7 6/10″) and 4.55m (14′ - 11 1/10″) on her first attempts “with miles to spare,” according to coach Rick Suhr, and went on to say:
“We are certainly not where we were, and are still recovering from the injury. I was happy with these jumps into headwinds of 10-15mph, but this is not the place to push it.”

Sanya Richards plans to double in the 100m and 400m Dashes next Tuesday, August 7th, 2007 at the DN Galan meet, a Super Grand Prix event in Stockholm, Sweden that is part of the IAAF World Athletics Tour 2007. The DN Galan is the largest sporting event in Sweden. (That a track & field meet is the largest sporting event in Sweden is a testament to the high intelligence and impeccable taste of the Swedish people!)
First Richards wants to do some speed work in the 100m Dash to prepare for her run at a gold medal in the 200m Dash at the world championships next month in Osaka. She plans on improving on her PB of 11.28, a mark she set back in 2003. Then she has a weightier goal in mind: a one-carat diamond valued at $10,000.00. Athletes who break a stadium record in this meet are awarded that beautiful 200mg gem. The stadium record for the women’s 400m Dash is 50.13 seconds. Richards’ time of 49.52 seconds is the world’s fastest in 2007. Her PB of 48.70 seconds is an American record.
Asafa Powell also plans on earning his second DN Galan diamond. Powell won one last year with his 9.86 stadium record in the 100m Dash. Since 1994, 52 diamonds have been awarded at DN Galan.
