Today I’m joined by Peter Gilmore; a well respected U.S. marathoner who runs for Team MarathonGuide.com. Gilmore, who has a marathon PR of 2:12:45 (Boston, 2006), has been struggling with injuries of late, but seemes headed back on track. Last year, he won the Surf City USA Half-Marathon in Huntington Beach, CA and set a new course record of 1:03:53. He was also the top American at the 2007 Boston Marathon and 2006 ING New York City Marathon,.
In the interview, he discusses the current economic crisis, offering his unique perspective as both an elite runner and as someone who holds a masters degree in finance. Gilmore talks about how how the current economic crisis is affecting him, personally, as well as other elite runners, how this downturn might actually be good for the sport in the United States and offers steps that professional and other runners can take to weather the storm.

TFS Running Podcast: Lindsey Anderson on the State of the Women’s Steeplechase

Today I had the pleasure of speaking with American steeplechaser Lindsey Anderson who over the past couple of seasons has become one of the best runners in the United States. She had a breakthrough season in 2007, finishing 2nd in the NCAA Championships steeplechase and then finishing 3rd at the US Outdoor Championships to earn a trip to Osaka. In 2008, she finished 2nd at the US Olympic Trails while setting a PR of 9:30.75, thus becoming the 5th fastest American steeplechaser of all time and earning a trip to the inaugural Olympic women’s 3000 meter Steeplechase. I caught up to Lindsey after her return from France where she ran a time of 9:45.28 to win the steeplechase in the DecaNation meet in Paris, France on September 6th, 2008.
