Section: News & Results
Runners wishing to register for the 32nd Lilac Bloomsday 12-K, scheduled for Sunday, May 4, in Spokane, Wash., need to act quickly to avoid the higher late-registration fee. Online registrants have until Sunday, April 20, to take advantage of the $15.00 entry fee at www.bloomsdayrun.org, one of the lowest entry fees of any of America’s top road races.
“We like to leave the online deadline open as long as possible so people can take advantage of Bloomsday’s low $15.00 entry fee,” said Bloomsday race director Don Kardong in a prepared statement. “For anyone who procrastinates past the 20th, though, the fee jumps to $30.00.”

Section: News & Results, Road Racing
Earlier today registration officially opened for the 11th TD Banknorth Beach to Beacon 10K. This year’s edition of race in Cape Elizabeth, ME is set for 8AM on August 2..
It should be noted that race organizers decided to eliminate paper applications this year because of financial and environmental concerns; making it the first road race in America to go completely “paperless”.
As a result, all athletes must register online at: http://www.beach2beacon.org/
Founded by U.S. marathon legend and women’s running pioneer Joan Benoit Samuelson, the Beach to Beacon 10K is a fan favorite that attracts runners from all parts of the U.S. and elite athletes from around the world. In 2007, the race featured over 5,000 runners and drew more than 10,000 spectators.
Beach to Beacon 10-K Registration to Go Paperless

While nearly every USA road race offers online entry, the TD Banknorth Beach to Beacon 10-K in Cape Elizabeth, Me., has become the first to completely eliminate the paper application, requiring all athletes to register via the Internet for the 2008 edition of the race on August 2.
“The printed applications really had grown obsolete with such a vast majority of runners preferring to register using the online process,” said David Weatherbie the race president. “It just stopped making sense to continue to print and mail applications. The money and time expended can be better utilized in other areas.”
Weatherbie also cited the environmental cost of printed applications, many of which are eventually discarded. Many races have been attempting to “go green” with many of their race practices.
