After nearly 23 years, RUNNING STATS, has ceased publication, according to editor and publisher, Paul Christman.
“As your diarist’s tenure with Running Stats draws to a close, it’s been a good run,” Christman wrote on his website in a brief farewell message where he thanked his many correspondents.
RUNNING STATS was for years a paper newsletter sent through the mail and was the only timely source of elite distance running results. Christman relied on the support of race directors who not only purchased his newsletter but paid for his travel to their events to provide coverage. Runner’s World will increase its rate base from 630,000 to 640,000 beginning with the January 2008 issue, announced Andrew R. Hersam, Vice President and Publisher Director, Runner’s World Media Group. This year marks the 12th straight year that Runner’s World has increased its rate base, and within the last five years, the magazine has seen a 23% increase.
This increase comes on the heels of two months of record advertising sales for Runner’s World: the September 2007 issue claimed more than 79.67 pages of sold-ad space with advertising revenues of nearly $7.2 million and the October 2007 issue boasted 75.83 sold-ad pages with $6.9 million in ad revenues. From January to October of 2007, Runner’s World set a new record with $59.9 million in PIB revenue with 615 pages of sold-ad space reported in the same period.
Additionally, this marks the fifth straight year that Runner’s World ad revenue has grown by more than 10%.
