Amy Palmiero-Winters Wins Runners World Heroes of Running Award

Amy Palmiero-Winters, of Hicksville, New York, single mother of two, world class marathon runner and triathlete has won the 2007 Runners World Peoples Choice Heroes of Running award. This award is given out in recognition of a runner chosen by the public as a hero of running. Since 2004, Runners World, the leading magazine for the running community annually presents awards to inspirational elite and citizen runners. Ms. Palmiero-Winters was also nominated this year for the 2006 ESPY (Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly) award for best female athlete with a disability.

Video: Chicago Runners Can Finish At Denver Marathon

The LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon was stopped mid-way through due to high temperatures and extreme humidity on race day.
However, now Denver Marathon officials are offering free registration to Chicago runners who want to get to the finish line.

World Championship Sports Network (WCSN) Lands “Significant Investment”

World Championship Sports Network (WCSN), a cable TV network and website that covers over 60 Olympic and lifestyle sports, announced on Monday that it has received a significant investment from private equity firm InterMedia Partners.
Los Angeles-based WCSN covers over 200 live events annually, and has exclusive programming agreements to cover major championship events in sports like track and field, skiing, swimming, gymnastics, cycling, volleyball and karate.
The company has also recently signed deals to distribute its content with ESPN.com, FoxSports.com, AOL Video and Yahoo Sports.
“WCSN controls a powerful set of rights and some of the best-produced sports content featuring the greatest athletes from around the world,” said Peter Kern, managing partner at InterMedia Partners.
“Millions of sports enthusiasts have waited long enough for these events to be consistently available on all platforms.”

West Coast Bank to sponsor Portland Marathon

West Coast Bank (Nasdaq: WCBO) is the exclusive bank sponsor of the 36th Annual Portland Marathon on October 7, 2007. West Coast Bank employees, as volunteers, will also provide support for runners and walkers in the event, heading up the West Coast Bank Aid Station located near mile 25 of the course.

Reigning Champion Felix Limo Withdraws From This Year’s La Salle Bank Chicago Marathon

PRESS RELEASE: The 2005 LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon champion Felix Limo (KEN) has withdrawn from this years race.
Citing lower back pain, the winner of the 2006 Flora London Marathon and current co-leader on the World Marathon Majors leader board, informed race organizers today that he will be unable to compete on October 22.
“While this is a disappointment for us and for Felix that he will be unable to defend his crown, we undoubtedly support what was obviously a difficult decision for him,” remarked Executive Race Director Carey Pinkowski. “Felix is a great champion and I am confident that he will recover and be back stronger than ever. He is always welcome here and we will make every effort to bring him back to Chicago in 2007.”
Limo earned The 2005 LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon title in 2:07:02 and was considered an early favorite in this years Race. Earlier this spring he won a second consecutive title and 25 World Marathon Majors points in London with a 2:06:39 finish.
