One of the most important things you should be doing with your workout routine is implementing cross training activity.
Cross training is important for several reasons, the primary one is avoiding injuries. If you constantly go to the gym and are pounding away on a regular basis, your body will feel the effects.
Those who are involved in distance or repetitive activities such as running or swimming may see this problem happening even more. Runners, in particular, tend to experience repetitive stress. Swimmers, on the other hand, will usually suffer problems in the shoulder joint from the same motion being executed session after session. Both sports also train for long sessions, so this only adds to the troubles.

Will potassium supplements treat fatigue in an athlete?

Tiredness and cramps in athletes can have many causes, but lack of potassium in their diets is not one of them. Many years ago, Dave Costill of Ball State University tried to create potassium deficiency in runners. He couldn’t do it because potassium is found in all foods except refined sugar, and his athletes would not stay on a diet that consisted only of hard candy.
The kidneys and sweat glands conserve potassium so well that you don’t lose much. If an athlete develops potassium deficiency, it is usually caused by drugs, such as diuretics or corticosteroids, or by diarrhea or repeated vomiting.

It’s true, most runners love structure. There are countless training programs, workouts, etc that offer and promote such beloved precision and planning.
They detail exactly what pace to run at, for how long and on what terrain; often ensuring dependence on training assistants, sports watches and heart-rate monitors.
Although such training can be effective, it can also be very beneficial to take a break from such rigidity. These workouts offer freedom, alleviate a lot of the stress inherent to traditional training runs and will enable you to become more in tune with your body.
