NY Times Highlights Nike Running’s Innovative Marketing Strategies

nike swoosh logoNike is one of the many large marketers that are taking huge chunks of money out of their budgets for traditional media and using the funds to develop new, more direct interactions with consumers — not only on the Internet, but also through in-person events.

Kara Goucher Adam Goucher NikeAdam and Kara Goucher go on-line with a new feature at nikerunning.com called “Meet the Gouchers.”

“We’ll give consumers an eye opening account of what it’s like to be a married couple who happen to be elite athletes training for the 2008 Olympic Trials,” read the copy from a press release from Nike.

The site offers videos of the Gouchers doing their training drills, but also plenty of snippedts of their daily life (like feeding the cat).

“If we didn’t have each other we would probably have thrown in the towel a long time ago,” Adam says about Kara while sipping coffee in their kitchen.
