Below is TheFinalSprint.com’s video coverage of Kenya’s Hilda Kibet at the press conference following her victory at the 2007 NYC Half-Marathon on Sunday, Aug 5.
Hilda was able to out-sprint defending champion and fellow Kenyan Catherine Ndereba and Nina Rillstone of New Zealand in the last hundred meters to take the women’s crown. The three elite female runners untimely finished less than one second apart.
As NYRR CEO and President Mary Wittenberg predicted, the NYC Half-Marathon was in many ways Hilda’s “coming out party”.

Although Abdi was unable to keep up with the blistering speed of Haile Gebresalassie, he was still extremely impressive as he bested World Marathon Majors leader Robert K. Cheruiyot, the legendary Hendrick Ramaala and other top, elite athletes from around the world.

Haile Gebreselassie won the NYC Half-Marathon in 59:24, an average of 4:31 per mile, smashing the year-old (and only) course record of 1:01:22. Abdi Abdirahman finished second in 1:00:29, and Robert Cheruiyot finished in third in 1:00:58.
During the first half of the race, it was a three-man pack at the front with Gebreselassie, Robert Cheruiyot, and Abdi Abdirahman running stride-for-stride. At around the 5K mark Cheruiyot, whose stated goal was to win the race, tested the field and made a subtle move. Abdi and Gebreselassie both stayed with him.

Through the first six miles over the rolling hills of Central Park, a number of top women’s runners managed to stay together. This is in stark contrast to the men’s race, where shortly after exiting the Park one man broke away from everyone and opened a huge lead.
As the women entered onto the West Side Highway just after mile 9, there were three top women, including last year’s winner, Catherine Ndereba, Hilda Kibet, and Madai Perez. They hit the 15K mark in 50:39.
Three seconds behind them is current fourth place runner Yuri Kano of Japan, with Nina Rillstone of New Zealand one second behind her. Megumi Oshima of Japan has faded to 8 seconds behind the leaders.
Haile leads by about 20 seconds and has run 10 miles in a blazing 45:20
