On Sunday, June 1, 2008, the original Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon in San Diego begins a new decade as one of the world’s premiere marathons. The event is known as a 26.2-mile block party with a live band at every mile along the course, hundreds of cheerleaders, themed water stations and a post-race concert, which featured SEAL in 2007.
Now is the time to set training plans and begin preparing for the entertaining fitness experience. For 20,000 runners and walkers, race weekend offers a unique opportunity to take an active vacation, accomplish personal goals, team up with friends and family, raise funds for charity or race like the King.

The Indy Classic Marathon, Half-Marathon and 5-K debuts on Saturday, September 8, and the event will have a decidedly military emphasis. Organizers announced that the inaugural race “is dedicated to all active and reserve military personnel and to fallen military personnel who have lost their lives defending our country since September 11, 2001, and their families.”
The course through downtown Indianapolis and outlying areas will take in the Soldiers & Sailors Monument on the Circle, the scenic over hanging trees along Meridian Street, and the prestigious American Legion Mall bordered by the World War Memorial at the finish line.

“Boston Marathon in Iraq” to be held on Saturday, April 14.

For the third consecutive year, coalition forces will trade in their combat boots for running shoes to participate in the “Boston Marathon in Iraq” to be held at the Tallil Air Base on Saturday, April 14. Last year’s race attracted close to 600 runners who circled the base before sunrise to escape the heat.
The race is organized by Army Cpt. Andrew Heymann and Cpt. Tom Tolman, a past Boston Marathon runner. The Boston Athletic Association – organizer of the Boston Marathon – along with several of its sponsors has provided official bib numbers, finisher’s medals, Patriots’ Day commemorative pins, official finisher’s certificates, olive wreaths for the winners, trophies for the top finishers, participant t-shirts, water bottles, and race program publications. Over the last three years, the Iraq/Boston Marathon has become a welcome diversion and morale boost for deployed soldiers stationed in Iraq.
