Tyson: Sullivan breaks own 3000m record; Symmonds falls to Fountain in mile

Canadian Kevin Sullivan broke his own national record over 3000m at the Tyson Invitational last night in Fayetteville, Ark., edging American Matt Tegenkamp to win the race.

Sullivan, 32, the Canadian record holder for 1500m (3:31.71), clocked 7:40.17 at the Tyson meet, lowering his record by exactly two seconds. Tegankamp was just fractions behind, clocking a personal best 7:40.25, a U.S. leader for 2007. Alistair Cragg of Ireland was third in 7:43.30.

With Alan Webb sidelined by a head cold, Australian Mark Fountain easily defeated American Nick Symmonds in the mile, 3:55.58 to 4:01.21.

Alan Webb, Sarah Jamieson win the mile at Reebok Boston Indoor Games

alan_webb_olympic_photo.jpgAmerican Alan Webb continued his domination, but Shayne Culpepper was upset by Australia’s Sarah Jamieson in the 1 mile races at tonight’s Reebok Boston Indoor Games.

Webb, who The Final Sprint will be interviewing on Monday, was able to secure the big win in a time of 3:55.18; a new indoor P.R. Canadian Kevin Sullivan was the runner-up, finishing in a time of 3:57.33, and Australia’s Mark Fountain came in third (3:57.76).

Sarah Jamieson was able to pull of the win in a time of at 4:28.03. She upset America’s Shayne Culpepper (4:31.35) and Christin Wurth-Thomas (4:31.84). Sarah Hall, wife of Ryan Hall, had a disappointing fourth-place finish (4:32.24).

In other events, Steven Hooker continued to demonstrate why he holds the number one ranking and came away with yet another victory in the pole vault (not to mention a new Australian record). Stay tuned … the results of the men’s and women’s 3000m will be posted shortly.
