Hi, this is my blog in TFS’s Elite Athlete Blog Series. Bookmark http://kateoneill.thefinalsprint.com/ and check back every other Monday for my latest entry as I strive for the 2008 Summer Olympics!

Gebrselassie Explains “Sub-Par” Performance
Even though he won by a minute and a half, even though he was well under the hour mark for a half marathon (his winning time was 59:15), even though he ran the 14th fastest half of all time, even though he did it without the benefit of rabbits, Haile Gebrselassie still felt a need to explain what he must consider to be his sub-par performance at the Lisbon Half Marathon, saying, “I tried to push myself for a better performance but I couldn’t do better. It’s a little bit hot, I’m feeling well, but I couldn’t achieve my goal. It’s no excuse, but I’m a little bit worried about my father’s health. I’m in good shape and I can’t tell why I couldn’t run faster.”
