Allyson Felix was almost preordained to win the 200-meteres but in track and field everyone has learned that anything can happen and nothing is guaranteed. She did not feel the pressure mounting after she failed to qualify in the 100-meters for the Olympic Team.
Why?
Because Allyson Felix is that cold of a 200-meter runner.
“I’m just happy to win and make the team because I can fine tune now,” said Felix. “My start wasn’t great and it really never is great but my strength is really coming down the stretch. I’ve been relaxing and waiting for the last couple days for the final today.”

2004 Olympic silver and two-time World Outdoor 100m medalist Lauryn Williams, 2004 Olympic 4×400m gold medalist Sanya Richards, 2004 Olympic silver medalist and two-time World Outdoor 200m champion Allyson Felix and two-time World Outdoor 200m medalist Wallace Spearmon addressed the media at a press conference Thursday held in conjunction with the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials - Track & Field, June 27 - July 6 at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
Below are excerpts from Thursday’s press conference.
Lauryn Williams
I’ve been doing the same things I’ve always been doing before a USA Championship, nothing extraordinary. I’ve been preparing, getting ready for a top peak and a top three finish at Eugene.
It’s pretty nerve-wracking for me, I’ll say. I’d say that there’s a good 8 to 12 girls and anybody’s game. I just hope that I can get out there and get my adrenaline pumping and do what I’ve always done. I’ll work the kinks out during the rounds.

Lauryn Williams on Marion Jones and News Media
Posted October 14th, 2007 at 6:45 PM by Jimmie R. Markham
Section: News & Results, Track & Field
Lauryn Williams (runner on the left in photo), the diminutive sprinter with an impressive list of accolades, writes articulately and passionately in her blog about the Marion Jones doping situation and the lack (and wrong kind) of media attention her sport generates.
In describing her feelings upon seeing Marion Jones’ teary-eyed announcement, Williams writes:
I am back and forth between sad for her unfortunate situation and angry at the mess she has created and left for current athletes to clean up… What happened to Marion is very unfortunate. Although many will believe she got what she deserved, I don’t think it is for me nor anyone to judge or prescribe.
She doesn’t pull any punches when it comes to her feelings about the media and its misinformed coverage of track & field:
I am disgusted that we couldn’t get ESPN coverage of the world championships in Osaka. At least a brief highlight of the Americans who medaled would have been nice. But Marion’s story made SportsCenter for the whole day and is still a topic now five days later. People wanted to give their expert opinion about a sport they know nothing about. America doesn’t watch us because we are very seldom televised. That is why no one knows anything of our sport except the drug scandal. And I’m confused about the timing as she explained first taking the drug. Sept. of 2000? Wasn’t the original statement 1999? If I am unsure of the info I am getting just imagine how people that are uneducated about our sport are misconstruing the facts and spreading this misinformation.
Williams’ career highlights include the following:
• 2007 IAAF World Championships 100m Silver medalist
• 2005 PB of 10.88 in the 100m (2005 Weltklasse Zurich)
• 2005 PB of 22.27 in the 200m (2005 Adidas Classic)
• 2005 4 x 100m World Champion
• 2005 IAAF World Championships 100m Gold Medalist
• 2004 Finance Degree (University of Miami)
• 2004 Olympic 100m Silver Medalist
• 2004 3rd in 100m at the US Olympic trials
• 2004 NCAA 100m Champion
• 2003 Pan Am 100m and 4×100m relay gold medalist
• 2002 World Junior gold medalist 100m, silver in 4×100 relay
• 2002 US Junior 100m Champion

Section: News & Results, Track & Field
Team USA standouts Tyson Gay, Sanya Richards, Jeremy Wariner, Michelle Perry, Allen Johnson and Lauryn Williams will lead an accomplished group of U.S. stars Friday at the 2007 Shanghai Golden Grand Prix in China.
This third edition of the Golden Grand Prix in Shanghai has been designated as a qualifying event for the IAAF / VTB Bank World Athletics Final 2008. Competing athletes at the meet will have the opportunity to get an early start on qualifying for next year’s final, to be held September 13-14.
Current world and U.S. men’s 100m and 200m champion Tyson Gay will compete in the 100 meters in a field that includes fellow Americans JJ Johnson and Marcus Brunson. The men’s 110m hurdles also should prove interesting as four-time world champion Allen Johnson and 2007 World Outdoor Championships bronze medalist David Payne do battle with world record holder and reigning world and Olympic champion Liu Xiang, who will compete in front of an enthusiastic hometown audience.

Richards continued in her impressive string of world-leading wins in the women’s 400. Coming off world leaders in the last three Golden League meets, Richards dropped another WL on Sunday with her time of 49.27, tying her winning time from Berlin last Sunday. Novlene Williams of Jamaica was second in 50.12; American Mary Wineberg was seventh in 50.73.

U.S. stars set to compete at World Athletics Final

Section: News & Results, Track & Field
Team USA standouts Allyson Felix, Sanya Richards, Brad Walker, Wallace Spearmon, Lauryn Williams, Reese Hoffa and Walter Davis lead a strong cast of U.S. stars slated to compete this weekend at the 2007 IAAF World Athletics Final in Stuttgart, Germany.
The 2005 World 200m women’s champion, Allyson Felix defended her title at the World Championships in Osaka with the largest margin of victory in World Championships history, striding to the gold medal and a huge personal best of 21.81 seconds, the fastest time run by a woman this century. Felix, who has posted the three fastest 200m times in the world this year, also won gold in the 4×100 and 4×400 relays, splitting 48.0 in the 4×4. She will compete in the 100 meters in Stuttgart.
For the second consecutive year, Richards earned a share of the IAAF Golden League Jackpot by winning the women’s 400 meters at all six prestigious European meets. She enters Stuttgart with the four fastest women’s 400m times in the world this year, including the world-leading 49.27 she ran Sunday to close out her Golden League victories in Berlin.
