TFS Review: MotionLingo’s Adeo GPS Fitness Trainer

MotionLingo’s Adeo has garnered much attention this year as an innovative GPS-based fitness trainer that not only tracks your speed and distance, but also accommodates full integration with any mp3 player.
I have run with many other GPS products, but the Adeo is the first to provide workout feedback via audio messages rather than a visual watch interface. This sounded like a great idea to me right off the bat and I enjoyed putting putting the Adeo to the test.
Product: MotionLingo Adeo Fitness Trainer
Price: $149.95
Rating: Good 7.1/10.0
Pros: Hands-free GPS updates; Works with all mp3 players; Lightweight; Considerably more affordable than other GPS units, Easy to configure workouts and view data; Rapidly-evolving online training log; Affordable cost compared to other fitness GPS units; Multisport support; Excellent, frequently updated software package
Cons: Often takes several minutes to connect with satellites; Unstable, GPS connection could be improved; Small, unresponsive buttons
Overall: The Adeo is a very innovative and exciting concept; one that true audiophiles will want to immediately add to their running rig. However, others may want to wait for the next generation of Adeos (to be released later this spring) because like most first generation products, there are a few issues (i.e. - GPS performance) that could use an upgrade.

TFS Review: Garmin Forerunner 305 Personal GPS

The Garmin Forerunner 305 is an outstanding training and racing tool for any running enthusiast. With GPS tracking, a “training assistant” and a heart rate monitor - this is a first rate item (if you can afford it). Check out the below review by Adam Berger, our tech expert and the Managing Editor of Gadgetell:
Product: Garmin Forerunner 305
Price: $349.99
Rating: Very Good 8.0/10.0
Pros: GPS tracking, heart rate monitor, reasonably lightweight, large display.
Cons: Battery life, size, spotty coverage at times and expensive for most amateur athletes
Overall:The 305 model is much improved over past designs. While the unit may not be necessary for the beginner athletes, marathon and other hard core runners will appreciate it’s advanced features.
When taking the unit out of the box and upon completion of charging it - I acquired a signal very quickly. There was no configuration required and I started my first run by strapping on the heart rate monitor (I read a tip that said to put water on the monitor before putting it on), putting the monitor on my watch and I was off. Once strapping the unit to my wrist I was immediate able to hit the pavement without any setup required. It is obvioulsy dangerous to stare at my wrist the entire time while running but the unit seemed to keep a signal and gives me the data I needed primarily pace and heart rate.
FYI: An EASY and FREE Way to Measure Your Next Route

Tracking your mileage is always a great idea – but it can often be tedious and time-consuming. If you don’t want to spend several hundred dollars on a device like a Garmin Forerunner and your sick and tired of measuring your routes via your car’s pedometer – well your now in luck. Thanks to the wonderful technology provided by Google maps and the Google satellites, there are now several easy to use and reliable mapping tools on the internet.
These sites allow you to use your mouse to trace your routes on a map and save them. In addition, many of them allow you to share your routes with others. This is especially handy if you are hoping to go for a quick run when you are away from home (i.e. – on a family vacation or a business trip) so that you can use other people’s saved routes for your own stress-relieving run.
Please beware that there are several sites out there that require monthly fees or service charges.
However, with the following three sites – you will get reliability – and best of all . . . they are 100% FREE!!!
These sites have become incredibly popular for runners around the country. Since trying them out I have become a huge fan and a regular user. Try them and let me know what you think. I believe you’ll find them to be just as useful and easy-to-use as I have. ENJOY!
