New Website Launched to Monitor Jenny Crain’s Condition

jenny crain photo courtesy of the new york road runnersA new website, http://jennycrain.net/ has been set up to allow family and friends to monitor Jenny Crain’s progress. She’s the USA athlete who was struck by a car and seriously injured while training last Aug. 21.

There’s a blog on the front page which describes her recovery progress, and a page where you can leave her your good wishes. There’s also information on how to make a donation to her recovery fund.


Stare Down the Demons: Get psyched up for your next run!

rocky.jpgWe all have moments when we simply don’t feel like working out. It’s not always easy to lace up the shoes, walk out to the car in the cold, or wake up for a 5 a.m. run.

There are a number of demons staring us down: a sour attitude; the comfortable couch we dared to sit on after an exhausting work day; the cozy bed with a warm, enveloping partner; or just plain laziness. We can all agree that while we may not always feel up for a workout, we are thrilled with how we feel at the finish. The natural high kicks in. This is why it’s vital to have strategies for dealing with the fight.

I want to highlight three ideas I find useful. You can think of them as ways to trick your mind into doing what your body knows it needs. Perhaps all of the strategies don’t appeal to you. That’s okay. Pick one and experiment.

Bored with your trail running route? The solution may be simpler than you think …

trail runSo you’ve just blown through one of your regular trail routes and you are feeling like it’s become too routine, as if you’ve just done your regular 3-mile loop in your neighborhood. As you think to yourself how mundane that loop was the thought hits you in the side of head like a wild right hook from Chuck Liddell, the trails I’m running have become just like the pavement, uninspiring and ridiculously repetitive!

One of the reasons you left the pavement for the woods was the different surroundings but somehow that does not seem to be the case. Lost is that sense of adventure, excitement or what lurks up ahead. Logic would dictate that you should change trails, routes, hills or mountains. However, what if that’s not possible, or you have already tried that, but can’t shake the monotony?

Well, you should start by considering your attitude towards your training runs and workouts, as well as how your routine generally unfolds…
