Day in the Sun for U.S. Olympic Trials Men’s Marathon
Google News, like most news sites, is not know for covering running or track & field on most days. So when the U.S. Olympic Trials Men’s Marathon makes their sorts page, that’s news in itself. As of publication time, the number of stories devoted to the trials is 41.

Former Olympian Disagrees with Headphones Ban
Former Olympian and world championships marathon bronze medalist Steve Moneghetti disagrees with the newly-imposed headphones/mp3 player ban, saying, “I find that bizarre they would be banning them.” Read more at: [Sydney Morning Herald]

IAAF World Athletics Final: Women’s 200m

The women’s 200m dash at the IAAF World Athletics Final in Stuttgart, Germany was a wide open race. The only world championships’ finalist in the race was LaShauntea Moore (USA) who had finished 7th in Osaka. Lauren Williams, a 100m specialist, was in the race with a PB of 22.27. Debbie Ferguson-McKenzie (BAH) with a 22.19 and Kim Gevaert (BEL) with a 22.20 had the fastest PB’s going into the race.
Moore, a little too eager to get under way, had a false start which was charged to the entire field. The next false start would result in a disqualification, a common occurrence in this meet.
With so many more DQ’s than usual, it was obvious that there were technical problems with the starting equipment. Kim Gevaert false-started next and was out of the race.
