Posted September 18th, 2008 at 2:09 PM by Jimmie R. Markham
Section: News & Results, Cross Country, Track & Field, Special Features, Interviews, Podcasts
Today I got to chat with Chris Bucknam, the head track & field and cross-country coach of the men’s program at the University of Arkansas. Coach Bucknam has taken the helm of a program that was led to unparalleled success in the NCAA by the legendary John McDonnell.
I asked him what it was like to follow in the footsteps of a legend and what it takes to make that transition from Northern Iowa to Arkansas. We also discussed the challenges of having athletes who can balance competing for the NCAA as well as trying to go after the conflicting goal of making an Olympic team. Download the podcast to hear Coach Bucknam talk about his 2008 cross-country schedule as well as some of his goals for track season. He even talks about career he would have pursued had he not been a track coach!
