Chicago Marathon Supporting City’s Olympic Bid

Chicago 2016 Summer Olympic Games Bid logoRace organizers and local officials hope that Sunday’s Bank of America Chicago Marathon will highlight the city’s status as a candidate city for the 2016 Olympic Games. Some 250 volunteers from Chicago’s Olympic bid committee will be on the race course to lead fans in cheering, and Olympians from different sports will be on hand throughout the week; some will even hand out finisher medals.

“The marathon has a long tradition of supporting the Olympic movement,” said mayor Richard M. Daley at a press conference at the Chicago Hilton. “We would not pursue the Olympic Games if did not think it would benefit our people.”

Video: Questions linger about 2007 Chicago Marathon

chicagomarathonlogo smallA number of questions still remain from the LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon despite the recent autopsy report which determined that the heat was not responsible for the tragic death that took place last Sunday.

Although inside sources have reported that Chicago’s Olympic bid is only in ‘3rd place’, the Windy City’s Mayor Daley feels otherwise. Either way, and as CBS 2’s Chief Correspondent reports, few believe that recent complaints about the marathon will thwart Chicago’s Olympic hopes.
