Gail Devers Becomes Two-Time Gold Medal Mom

Gail Devers U.S. Olympic Track & Field TeamFive-time Olympian Gail Devers and her husband, Mike Phillips, have welcomed their second daughter into their family. Legacy Brielle Phillips was born October 23, measuring up at 6 pounds, 13 ounces and 19 inches long. Legacy’s 2-year-old big sister, Karsen, is busily helping mom with feedings and diaper changes.

The 41-year-old Devers is a two-time Olympic gold medalist and the 1993 world champion in the 100 meters and is a three-time world champion in the 100m hurdles, where she holds the American record. Devers competed during the 2007 indoor season and is also a coach and agent.

Ritzenhein Becomes a Father

Stork image courtesy of storknet.comOne of America’s top contenders in the Nov. 3 Olympic Trials marathon, Dathan Ritzenhein, became a father for the first time yesterday. His wife, Kalin, gave birth to a daughter, Addison Lee Ann Ritzenhein, born at 1:14 p.m. Pacific time.

“Kalin did great and is recovering,” Ritzenhein wrote in a text message to friends.

Ritzenhein, 24, made his marathon debut at the ING New York City Marathon last November in 2:14:01, struggling in the final miles. However, his 27:35.65 10,000m best certainly shows he can run significantly faster for the longer distance.

Baby Girl for Anastasia Ndereba

Kenyan marathoner, Anastasia Ndereba, gave birth to a baby girl, Joyruth Njeri, on Monday, June 11, at 1:00 p.m.

“She weighs 8 lbs. (3.6 kg) and mother and baby are doing fine,” wrote Lisa Buster, Ndereba’s manager, in an e-mail to friends.

Ndereba, 32, is the younger sister of 2003 IAAF World Marathon champion, Catherine Ndereba. She has a career best time of 2:29:03 set in Venice in 2002.


Hill Thurmond welcomes child

Three-time U.S. discus champion Aretha Hill Thurmond recently welcomed, with husband Reedus Thurmond, their son Devon Theoppolis at 7:58 p.m., on Monday, June 4. Devon weighed eight pounds, 14-ounces and was 21-inches long.

Reedus Thurmond is a three-time NCAA All-American and an assistant coach at the University of Washington.


Barsosio has baby boy

The 1997 World 10,000m Champion, Sally Barsosio of Kenya, gave birth to a baby boy on May 2 in Nairobi, her manager Ricky Simms reported.

The baby weighed 3.5 kgs (7.7 lbs), and will be called Alan. This is her second child; her first son was born in 2002.


Paula Radcliffe, proud new mother & marathon record holder, returns to the track

paula_radcliffe.jpgPaula Radcliffe has started running again just twelve days after delivering her baby girl. Her daughter, Ilsa, was born after 27 long hours of labor on January 17, 2007.

The world record holder runner gave an exclusive interview with “Hello!” magazine, a popular publication in the UK. “After five days I was doing lots of pushing the pram but I wasn’t doing much else.” She told the magazine with her husband, Gary Lough, by her side. She went on to say:

“I did my first little jog after 12 days and since then I’ve been running alternate days.”
