Strong 1500m Win for Brewer, 4×800m Relay Record Assault Falls Short

A solid front-running victory by Briton James Brewer was the key middle distance performance at the inaugural Gugl.Indoor meeting in Linz, Austria tonight.

Running from the front and just a stride behind the pacesetter throughout, Brewer, still just 19, romped home with 3:41.89 win, his second personal best in two days in Austria. In Vienna on Tuesday, he finished fourth in a competitive race, clocking 3:43.21.

James McIlroy, a stronger 800m man, closed strong to take second in 3:42.01, his fastest indoor performance and just shy of his outdoor best of 3:42.00.

Six Austrian athletes at Torino Games declared permanently inelegible for future Olympics

Torino 2006 Olympic GamesThe Executive Board (EB) of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) today unanimously decided to declare permanently ineligible six athletes from the Austrian biathlon and cross-country skiing teams who competed at the Torino 2006 Olympic Winter Games.

The athletes include cross country runners Roland Diethart, Johannes Eder, Juergen Pinter and Martin Tauber; and biathletes Wolfgang Perner and Wolfgang Rottmann.

This decision excludes them from taking part in any future Olympic Games in any accredited capacity – be that as an athlete, coach, official, etc. The EB approved the recommendations of the Disciplinary Commission (DC) set up by the IOC in February 2006 and composed of Dr Thomas Bach (chairman), Denis Oswald and Sergey Bubka.

Stunning Solo Performance for Kuzin at Linz Marathon

OMV Linz marathon logoWhile the eyes of most marathon observers were on Paris and Rotterdam today, Ukranian Alexander Kuzin put in a stunning solo performance at the OMV Linz Marathon in Austria, setting the second-fastest time in the world this year.
