elite british runners 2007 london marathonTop elite British male and female runners Jon Brown, Dan Robinson, Mara Yamauchi, Kathy Butler and Liz Yelling gather for Flora London Marathon press conference earlier today next to the Tower of London. The racers discussed the British preference for individualized training techniques as opposed to American “squad-training”.

The athletes were asked whether the American mentality of constantly training as a group provides stronger running results than training alone like these Brits.

peter gilmore mahawi 2007 boston marathonPeter Gilmore (San Mateo, CA) was the top American finisher in today’s 111th running of the Boston Marathon. Gilmore completed the course in 2:16:41, good for 8th place in a tough international field.

Kenyan Robert Kipkoech Cheruiyot won the race overall in 2:14:13 to take his third Boston Marathon title. The winning time was the slowest since 1977 as a result of the remarkably difficult weather.

This year’s Boston Marathon was particularly notable for its incredibly challenging conditions. The runners faced chilly temperatures, driving rain, and a stiff wind that made the last march up Commonwealth Avenue memorable. Gilmore handled the conditions admirably, sticking with the leaders until Cheruiyot and five others broke the race open around mile 20.
