Adventure Xstream Race Series Set to Air on Altitude Sports Network

Adventure Xstream Race SeriesGravity Play Sports is excited to announce the first national television broadcast of the Adventure Xstream Race Series & Xstream Expedition Adventure Race on Saturday, November 10th at 3:30pm MST on Altitude Sports Network.

Altitude will televise the hour long broadcast of the Adventure Xstream Adventure Race Series on Saturday, Nov. 10th in addition to 13 other times throughout the fall.

CamelBak Octane 8+ Hydration PackIt seems that in the world of hydration systems, there is always give-and-take and compromise. The small, light packs may not carry enough water. The bottle-based belt systems require use of hands and often make you stop in your activity during use. The hands-free, bladder-based systems tend to bounce around too much and cause discomfort.

Personally, I tend to gravitate toward the bladder-based hydration systems, such as those made by Camelbak or Ultimate Direction, because I can use them in full stride during my runs. I hate having to stop, pull out a bottle, and then put it back before resuming my run. However, all of the bladder-based hydration systems I had used in the past tended to have a heavy weight, poor center of gravity, and a tendency bounce around. Over the duration of a long road or trail run, this not only proves to be annoying, but can also cause chaffing, discomfort, and alteration of my stride.

2007 Blue Planet Run Concludes in New York City

BPR with Dow sponsor Logo (small jpg)An historic around-the-world relay run reached its finish line today in New York City, marking the completion of an unprecedented three-month athletic endeavor that is raising funds to deliver safe drinking water to some of the 1.1 billion people who currently live without it.

The inaugural 2007 Blue Planet Run, an event made possible by the generous support of The Dow Chemical Company, ended at noon at Manhattan’s South Street Seaport.

The twenty original Blue Planet Run team members who circumnavigated the globe, and two alternates who joined the journey along the way, ran through a crowd of fans, family and friends who were gathered at the landmark New York City waterfront locale to celebrate with the group as it completed its epic 95-day, 15,200-mile expedition through 16 countries.

Beginning from the United Nations in New York City on June 1, the Blue Planet Run team has run relay-style 24 hours a day, seven days a week across Europe, Russia, Asia, Canada and the United States. The runners have endured some of the world’s toughest conditions, from swatting flies through the Gobi Desert to navigating city streets in Beijing to coping with the blistering summer heat of America’s heartland.

Along the way, the Blue Planet Run inspired people around the world to donate to the Blue Planet Run Foundation (BPRF), the non-profit group that organized the Run. Because of Dow’s support, BPRF dedicates one-hundred percent of the money raised to fund grassroots safe-drinking-water projects in rural communities.

Team Nike Wins Adventure Race Championship

Team Nike crossed the finish line at Fort William just after 6 a.m. on a bright sunny morning to win the 2007 Adventure Racing World Championships, according to Sleepmonsters.

Rob Howard reports:

The team that calls themselves ‘the winningest’ team lived up to their reputation and successfully defended their title, forging powerfully ahead of all challengers and winning by a comfortable margin. (The second placed team, Wilsa Sport Helly Hansen have not yet started up Ben Nevis and it will be another 8 hours at least until they finish.)

Podcast 9: Interview with extreme ultramarathoner Dean Karnazes

dean_karnazes-copy-2-copy.gifToday’s podcast features my interview with Dean Karnazes, the “Ultramarathon Man”‘ who earned national acclaim (and became the target of skeptical critics) for completing the Northface Endurance 50 (Fifty marathons in fifty states in fifty consecutive days).

After the NYC Marathon, his 50th and final race, Dean decided to follow in the footsteps of Forrest Gump and “just kept running”; making it all the way from New York City to St. Charles, MO!

His resume also includes a myriad of impressive (and unique) feats, such as finishing the first marathon on the South Pole, winning the 2004 Badwater Marathon (135-mile race through Death Valley in 120-degree heat), swimming across San Fransisco Bay and running 350 miles in 80 hours and 44 minutes.

Switch it up and challenge yourself with a trail running adventure!

Trail running typically takes place on hills, mountains, hiking paths, etc - and is exponentially growing in popularity among runners, triathletes, hikers and other athletes. As a matter of fact, there are now approximately 6.5 million regular trail runners in the United States. The main allures of trail running comes from the more challenging and scenic courses. Constant changes in terrain are common; therefore, proper training and equipment are recommended before participating in any sort of formal races or events.
