Nick Symmonds elite athlete blogThis weekend marked the real beginning of 2008 for me. Traveling across the country to race at the Boston Indoor Games was a decision not easily made. Many factors go into choosing a season opener and Coach Gags [Frank Gagliano] and I vacillated all fall whether or not to open up here. Fortunately, we were on the same page as to what we hoped to gain from my 2008 debut. It might seem strange that so much thought went into a race that is run in January and does not qualify me for anything in particular, but I will try to explain our thought process and what we were looking for in a season opener.

As much as I would like to go out on a Saturday night to catch up with old high school classmates, that 14 mile long run Sunday morning always seems too painful if I don’t get plenty of rest the night before. And what ever happened to waking up at 6 am on Christmas morning and running out to the tree to see what Santa had brought? Now I find myself getting up at 6 am, putting on my full tights and beat up shoes to get my first of two runs that day out of the way.

Nick Symmonds elite athlete blogHowdy!

First, I would like to thank Adam Jacobs and The Final Sprint for providing me this opportunity.

As I have attained some of my professional goals, I have received more attention for my accomplishments and have been contacted by many fans and friends offering words of encouragement and asking for advice.

I thank all of you for your support over the last few years and apologize if I have failed to get back to you! The life of a runner can be hectic at times to say the least.
