Jones Scandal Damaged Credibility of Track, Says Sprinter
Jamaican 100m world champ Veronica Campbell-Brown, training in Florida for Beijing, said that the Marion Jones doping scandal has “put a dark cloud over the sport” of track and field and damaged its credibility.

Razorback Track Appealing NCAA Sanctions
The Arkansas Razorbacks track & field team is appealing sanctions put down on it by the NCAA, sanctions they call “excessive and inappropriate.”

Mike HuckabeeHuckabee Officially Enters Boston Marathon
Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee has officially registered to run on a relay team in this April’s Boston Marathon. He was granted a waiver to run for Team Hoyt, a local charity that seeks to integrate the physically disabled into everyday life.

First athletes selected for McMillan Elite running team

greg mcmillan mcmillan elite post collegiate running team arizonaMcMillanElite is proud to announce the first athletes for this new post-collegiate running team. Female athletes include Brianna Torres (US Olympic Trials Qualifier from the University of Colorado).

Male team members are Brett Gotcher (All-American from Stanford, US Junior 10K Champion and Junior Pan Am Games Gold Medalist at 10,000m), Mike Hanlon (Three-Time Patriot League Champion from Colgate University), Andrew Middleton (All-American from the University of Texas), Ben Rosario (US Olympic Marathon Trials Qualifier from Truman State University) and Mike Smith (All-American from Georgetown, Junior Pan Am Games Bronze Medalist at 5,000m).

AT&T USA Outdoor T&F Champs: Veterans Abdi Abdirahman & Deena Kastor win 10,000m titles

Abdi Abdirahman.jpgDeena KastorThere were two familiar faces in the winner’s circle tonight as the first finals were contested at the AT&T USA Outdoor Championships at the Michael A. Carroll Stadium at Indiana University-Purdue University here.

Abdi Abdirahman of Tucson, Ariz., and Deena Kastor of Mammoth Lakes, Calif., won their third and sixth U.S. 10,000m titles, respectively, in dramatically different fashion.

For Abdirahman, 30, who won the same title in 2001 and 2005, he had the challenge of maintaining control of a stacked field of contenders, including defending champion Jorge Torres, two-time champion Alan Culpepper, national half-marathon record holder Ryan Hall, U.S. 10,000m list leader Galen Rupp, and 2005 U.S. 12-K cross country champion Dathan Ritzenhein.

Bekele to run World Cross Champs after all

kenenisa-bekele.jpgKenenisa Bekele will have an opportunity to win his 11th individual senior title at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Mombasa, Kenya, on March 25, the IAAF reported today. Bekele, who had previously said many times that he would not contest these championships, has been added to the Ethiopian team, along with Gelete Burka on the women’s squad.

Bekele’s addition to the team lifts the fortunes of the Ethiopian squad to take back the team long-course gold they had won in 2005 in St. Galmier, France.
