Paula Radcliffe continues to look strong and has lead the entire way. Now through 10 miles in 56:25, Radcliffe has a steady trail of elites behind her - with Goucher in second and Wami & Tune trading places between third and fourth.

The single-file pack includes the rest of the favorites except for two-time Olympic silver medalist Catherine Ndereba who dropped off the pace after the 8 mile mark. One has to wonder whether or not Ndereba was able to fully heal and properly prepare for this race after finishing second at he Olympic marathon in Beijing.

Although Goucher had one misstep after the 10k mark, when she dropped her water bottle and let out a few choice words that we can’t republish here - she has looked very strong and comfortable running with this phenomenal field of elite women. Smith is just beginning to struggle a bit, falling off the pace by a few seconds.

Radcliffe ran mile 9 in 5:28 and mile 10 in 5:25; her second and third-fastest miles of the race. The question is, how much of a tole will this take on Radcliffe who has led the entire way in very windy conditions. Although she employed this strategy last year, she really only faced Wami as a challenger and was running in much better weather conditions.

The women are now heading into Queens - the birthplace of Goucher who said that she is embarking on a journey to hopefully become the greatest female marathoner in the world. Goucher lost her father, who was hit by a drunk driver, in NYC just after her fourth birthday.

Split Times:
Mile 6 - 34:20
10k Mark - 35:33
Mile 7 - 39:54
Mile 8 - 45:32
Mile 9 - 51:00
Mile 10 - 56:25
