Allyson FelixThe current standings are updated through Friday’s Rome Golden League meet. At this point of the season, each athlete’s best five races are totaled (one of which may be in a different event).

100 meters
1. Allyson Felix, USA, 75
2. Kerron Stewart, JAM, 69
2. Veronica Campbell-Brown, JAM, 69
4. Sherone Simpson, JAM, 67
5. Muna Lee, USA, 66
6. Sheri-Ann Brooks, JAM, 62
7. Marshavet Hooker, USA, 61
8. Angela Williams, USA, 51
9. Torri Edwards, USA, 50
10. Lauryn Williams, USA, 49

Campbell-Brown missed a major scoring opportunity by finishing fourth at the Jamaican Championships, otherwise she would likely be #1 in this event. Felix is in the top spot based on her strong showings in the Doha Super GP meet back in May and in the Olympic Trials 200.

200 meters
1. Kerron Stewart, JAM, 83
2. Muna Lee, USA, 77
3. Bianca Knight, USA, 72
4. Sherone Simpson, JAM, 65
5. Allyson Felix, USA, 59
6. Veronica Campbell-Brown, JAM, 57
7. Muriel Hurtis-Houairi, FRA, 53
8. Sheri-Ann Brooks, JAM, 51
9. Carmelita Jeter, USA, 46
10. Marshavet Hooker, USA, 42

No one doubts that Felix is the world’s best in this event, but the scoring system does not reward part-timers and she has run the 200 in just one meet. Aside from her, the rest of the list has very mixed results with everyone losing to someone else at some point during the season. Stewart’s win in Rome powered her to the top of the heap.

400 meters
1. Sanya Richards, USA, 77
2. Allyson Felix, USA, 72
3. Mary Wineberg, USA, 53
4. Novlene Williams, JAM, 50
5. Shericka Williams, JAM, 49
6. Amantle Montsho, BOT, 47
7. Natasha Hastings, USA, 34
8. Shereefa Lloyd, JAM, 33
8. Ebony Floyd, USA, 33
10. Folashade Abugan, NGR, 26

When Richards and Felix finally meet in this event, it will be one of the great showdowns of the year. Both are undefeated and are the only women to break 50 seconds so far in 2008.

800 meters
1. Pamela Jelimo, KEN, 128
2. Yelena Soboleva, RUS, 74
3. Janeth Jepkosgei, KEN, 59
4. Maria de Lurdes Mutola, MOZ, 52
5. Maryam Yusuf Jamal, BRN, 52
6. Yuliya Krevsun, UKR, 48
7. Lucia Klocová, SVK, 44
8. Kenia Sinclair, JAM, 43
8. Liliana Popescu, ROM, 43
8. Tamsyn Lewis, AUS, 43

The other great showdown will be if Jelimo and Soboleva meet at 800 meters. The Kenyan has run under 1:56.00 four times while the Russian ran 1:56.49 indoors and 1:55.7 at the recent Russian Cup. The USA’s hope, Hazel Clark, is in a three-way tie for 11th.

1500 meters
1. Yelena Soboleva, RUS, 83
2. Gelete Burka, ETH, 67
3. Liliana Popescu, ROM, 56
4. Yulia Fomenko, RUS, 55
5. Shannon Rowbury, USA, 44
6. Christin Wurth-Thomas, USA, 42
7. Maryam Jamal, BRN, 42
8. Nancy Jebet Lagat, KEN, 39
9. Irene Jelagat, KEN, 35
10. Sylvia Jebiwott Kibet, KEN, 34

The biggest recent races were the US and Kenyan Olympic trials, where Rowbury and Jelagat were victorious.

Steeplechase
1. Ruth Bisibori Nyangau, KEN 72
2. Donna MacFarlane, AUS, 66
3. Eunice Jepkorir, KEN, 54
4. Gulnara Samitova-Galkina, RUS, 49
5. Zemzem Ahmed, ETH, 47
6. Jenny Barringer, USA, 45
7. Anna Willard, USA, 41
8. Korene Hinds, JAM, 38
9. Lindsay Anderson, USA, 33
10. Yekaterina Volkova, RUS, 33

Leader Nyangau has won just a single steeple this year, but it was the Kenyan Olympic Trials where she left world list leader Eunice Jepkorir well behind.

3000 / 5000 meters
1. Meseret Defar, ETH, 76
2. Meselech Melkamu, ETH, 53
3. Sylvia Jebiwott Kibet, KEN, 52
4. Tirunesh Dibaba, ETH, 38
5. Kara Goucher, USA, 37
6. Priscilla Jepleting Cherono, KEN, 36
7. Gelete Burka, ETH, 35
7. Kim Smith, NZL, 35
9. Shalane Flanagan, USA, 34
10. Ejegayehu Dibaba, ETH, 32

US and Kenyan Olympic Trials champions Goucher and Cherono moved strongly up the ladder on the strength of their wins.

5000 / 10,000 meters
1. Tirunesh Dibaba, ETH, 98
2. Lucy Kabuu Wangui, KEN, 83
3. Shalane Flanagan, USA, 72
4. Priscilla Jepleting Cherono, KEN, 65
5. Meselech Melkamu, ETH, 64
6. Kara Goucher, USA, 63
7. Grace Kwamboka Momanyi, KEN, 59
8. Gelete Burka, ETH, 56
9. Ejegayehu Dibaba, ETH, 54
10. Kimberley Smith, NZL, 45

Wangui and Flanagan won their respective Olympic Trials to move behind the undefeated Dibaba.

100m Hurdles
1. Lolo Jones, USA, 108
2. Brigitte Foster-Hylton, JAM, 73.5
3. Josephine Onyia, ESP, 73
4. Candice Davis, USA, 54
4. Delloreen Ennis-London, JAM, 54
6. Susanna Kallur, SWE, 49
7. Damu Cherry, USA, 45
8. Lacena Golding Clarke, JAM, 40
8. Vonette Dixon, JAM, 40
10. Joanna Hayes, USA, 36

These standings show it was no surprise whe Onyia was knocked out of the Golden League jackpot hunt. Jones is one of only two women in running events to break 100 points, a testament to the strength of her season.

400m Hurdles
1. Melanie Walker, JAM, 64
2. Tiffany Ross-Williams, USA, 52
3. Anna Jesien, POL, 44
4. Lashinda Demus, USA, 43
5. Sheena Tosta, USA, 42
6. Nickiesha Wilson, JAM, 35
7. Shevon Stoddart, JAM, 33
8. Anastasiya Rabchenyuk, UKR, 32
8. Christine Spence, USA, 32
8. Zuzana Hejnová, CZE, 32

Jamaican champ Walker is undefeated this year and has run against all except Demus and Europeans Rabchenyuk and Hejnová. Top hurdlers Yuliya Pechonkina (illness) and Jana Rawlinson (toe injury) will miss the Olympics and likely the remainder of the season.
