1. Reese Hoffa, 71
2. Christian Cantwell, 63
3. Adam Nelson, 56
4. Tomasz Majewski, 39
5. Dorian Scott, 38
6. Garrett Johnson, 32
7. Rutger Smith, 31
8. Ryan Whiting, 28
9. Scott Martin, 28
10. Peter Sack, 26

Hoffa has a slight lead over Cantwell and Nelson, and these three are head and shoulders above the rest of the world. Cantwell missed Sunday’s Prefontaine Classic with an arm injury; in his absence, Nelson won with the second-longest throw of the year.

Discus Throw
1. Ehsan Hadadi, 77
2. Virgilijus Alekna, 52
3. Gerd Kanter, 51
4. Robert Harting, 38
5. Mario Pestano, 36
6. Zoltan Kovago, 30
7. Yennifer Frank Casañas, 29
7. Ian Waltz, 29
7. Piotr Malachowski, 29
10. Rutger Smith, 25

Iranian Hadadi is probably the safest bet for Olympic gold that you’ve never heard of. In four straight meets on the IAAF World Athletics Tour he’s beaten deep, tough fields with very long throws. Alekna has beaten Kanter in two of their three meetings this year. German thrower Smith has the unusual honor of making the top ten in two different throwing events.

Hammer Throw
1. Marco Lingua, 40
2. Krisztian Pars, 36
2. Libor Charfrietag, 36
4. Vadim Devyatovskiy, 22
5. Ali Mohamed Al-Zinkawi, 18

There has been so little action in the hammer this year that the rankings have no meaning beyond the top five. Leader Lingua won the biggest competition, the European Winter Throwing Cup.

Javelin Throw
1. Andreas Thorkildsen, 65
2. Mike Hazle, 44
3. Tero Pitkamaki, 42
4. Tero Jarvenpaa, 38
5. Jarrod Bannister, 36
6. Erik Rags, 26
7. Stuart Farquhar, 24
7. Ilya Korotkov, 24
7. Igor Janik, 24
10. John Robert Oosthuizen, 19

As usual, this event is led mostly by a tongue-twisting group of Scandinavians. American Hazle has thrown anywhere, anytime (he’s competed in the US, Australia, South America, and Europe).
