Yesterday I posted the first edition of my World Points Standings, the men’s sprints. Today I continue with the men’s distance events.
800 meters
1. Abuber Kaki Khamis, 75
2. David Lekuta Rudisha, 63
3. Mbulaeni Mulaudzi, 59
4. Abraham Chepkirwok, 53
5. Yusuf Saad Kamel, 46
5. Alfred Kirwa Yego, 46
7. Dmitrijs Milkevics, 35
8. Khadevis Robinson, 32
9. Richard Kiplagat, 30
10. Dmitriy Bogdanov, 29
Our two great newcomers, Kaki and Rudisha, are head and shoulders above the rest.
1500 meters & Mile
1. Augustine Kiprono Choge, 58
2. Daniel Kipchirchir Komen, 53
3. Deresse Mekkonen Tsigu, 47
4. Abdalaati Iguider, 44
5. Shedrack Kibet Korir, 37
6. Bernard Lagat, 34
7. Mohamed Moustaoui, 33
8. Andrew Baddeley, 32
9. Alex Kipchirchir, 27
9. Haron Keitany, 27
World list leader Choge is on top in an event where there is no clear leader. Lagat, who carries the American hopes, is back in sixth because he has not entered any truly big races; he is undefeated so far this year. Baddeley’s upset win in the Bislett Games “Dream Mile” powers him into the top ten.
3000 meters
(this also includes unpaced championship-type 5k races)
1. Tariku Bekele, 60
2. Kenenisa Bekele, 55
3. Paul Kipsiele Koech, 53
4. Augustine Kiprono Choge, 48
5. Edwin Cheruyuiot Soi, 48
6. Abraham Cherkos Feleke, 39
7. Craig Mottram, 37
8. Moses Kipsoro, 36
9. Leonard Patrick Komon, 30
10. Eliud Kipchoge, 27
The Bekele brothers are of course on top here; Tariku leads Kenenisa only because the latter has concentrated on longer distances.
5000 / 10,000 meters
1. Kenenisa Bekele, 73
2. Leonard Patrick Komon, 50
3. Moses Kipsiro, 48
4. Moses Ndiema Masai, 40
4. Tariku Bekele, 40
4. Eliud Kipchoge, 40
7. Haile Gebrselassie, 38
8. Abreham Cherkos, 36
9. Edwin Cheruyiot Soi, 34
10. Sileshi Sihine, 30
The top two athletes here finished in those positions at the World Cross Country Championships.
