Hazel Clark, Alice Schmidt and Nicole Teter made the U.S. Olympic Team today in the women’s 800-meter final of the trials.
There were 12 women in the race, but Clark navigated her way to the lead immediately. She flew by the 200-meter mark in 26.6 seconds for a 56.89 first lap. Clark finished in 1:59.82, followed by Alice Schmidt in 2:00.46.
The battle for the final spot on the team was between Nicole Teter and Kameisha Bennett. Teter made up for Saturday’s stumble with 2:01.30, but it was not enough to defeat Bennett’s 2:01.20. However, because Bennett does not have an Olympic “A” standard time, Teter will join Clark and Schmidt in Beijing.
