Kogo Sets Course Record
in Houilles

Kenya’s Micah Kogo defended his title at yesterday’s Corrida Pedestre Internationale de Houilles in France, shaving one second off of eight-time winner Khalid Skah’s course record.
The 21 year-old Kogo clocked 27:56 for 10 km, just two seconds ahead of Ukrainian Sergey Lebid. His Kenyan compatriot, Paul Kosgei, was third in 28:02. Interestingly, Lebid is scheduled to run another 10-K today in Bolzano, Italy.
For Kogo the victory in Ville de Houilles allowed him to end the year on a high note. He was widely seen as a medal contender for the 10,000m at the IAAF World Championships in Osaka last August, but failed to make the Kenyan team when he finished sixth in their trials meeting last July (his 26:35.53 personal best was the fastest 10,000m recorded in the 2006 season). However, he had a spectacular year road racing, running 27:07 for 10-K in Brunssum last April, and also winning the BUPA Great Manchester 10-K in a course record 27:21 and the Falmouth Road Race 7 mile in 31:53.
Nadia Ejjafini of Bahrain won the women’s race easily in 32:10.
