If you’ve ever had to fumble with your iPod to try and find a song or crank up the volume while on a treadmill, elliptical trainer, stationary cycle or – especially – running, you’ll appreciate the Timex IRONMAN Sleek iControl™ watch with its Play, Pause, Track Forward/Reverse and volume-control functions.
According to the Timex website, “the iControl™ watch transmits signals seamlessly to your iPod so you can control your music in a heartbeat. Designed to work with your body and coordinate with your iPod, the iControl watch is sleek and comfortable to wear - with all the features you need for running around the track or traveling around the world.”
When I opened the package, I was a bit annoyed to discover that no instruction manual was included in the box. However - and as it turned out - I didn’t need it. It’s simply plug and play.
You strap on the Timex IRONMAN Sleek iControl™ watch, plug in the iPod dock connector to your iPod (see step 1 below), go to “time mode” on your watch (see step 2 below), and press the play/pause button (see step 3 below). Then look for the iPod icon to make sure you have a connection and operating your iPod (see step 4 below) using your watch instead of having to reach over to your armband while craning your neck find the buttons. It’s really that simple.

The Timex IRONMAN Sleek iControl™ watch retails for $125.00 (USD). It comes with a one-year warranty and it also has some more-typical features found on other sports watches, such as Chronograph, Three Time Zones, 2 Interval timers, 3 Alarms, Countdown Timer, 50-lap Memory.
Those features aren’t anything to write home about, but let’s face it – if you need to listen to Foo Fighters or Alicia Keys while you’re running, you’re probably not doing any serious interval work so you probably don’t need anything more advanced than that on your sports watch. Just don’t wear it while running in a USATF-sanctioned race or else you could be disqualified.
