Kiplagat to Run in Brussels X-C Meet
Reigning world cross-country champion Lornah Kiplagat will run in the ‘Lotto Iris Crosscup’ cross-country meet in Brussels, Belgium on December 23rd in preparation for the Dubai Marathon on January 18th, 2008. The 33-year-ols world-record holder in the 20k sees the race as ideal for testing both her speed and strength. Read more at: [IAAF]

Kenya's Great Rift ValleyFraudulent “Coaches” Overtake Kenya’s Great Rift Valley
Frauds who are posing as athletes and coaches have invaded the famed Great Rift Valley in Kenya, home to many of the world’s greatest distance runners. Barry Switzer is A Self-Proclaimed Track Junkie
Former NCAA and NFL football coach Barry Switzer is a self-proclaimed track junkie. In Fayettville, AR last Friday, he sought out Hogs track coach John McDonnell and called him one of his heroes: “People don’t know it, but I’m a track junkie. I went to the Olympics at LA in ’84. I saw Al Joyner walking through the airport and I called out his name. No one else there knew him. I know the track guys. I LOVE track. I’m a great fan of what you’ve done, Coach McDonnell.”

Spectator Allegedly Throws Sand in X-C Runners’ faces
Police in Maine are investigating two incidents in which a spectator allegedly threw sand at competitors in a regional cross-country meet in Cumberland, Maine. One of the runners, a pre-race favorite from Somalia had to be treated because he was vomiting, shivering and had bloodshot eyes. Read more at: [WMTW][WMTW]
