John Woodruff, 800m Olympic Gold Medalist, Dies at 92
John Woodruff, the 800m Gold Medalist at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin, Germany and the final survivor of the 12-man American Track & Field contingent that dashed the madman Hitler’s dreams for an Aryan Olympics, died Tuesday in Fountain Hills, AZ at age 92. Read more at: [NY Times][Wikipedia]
Reggae Marathon Hopes to Build Up Long-Distance Running in Jamaica
Jamaica has long been known for producing some of the world’s best sprinters. The organizers of the Reggae Marathon, however, hope to build up long-distance running in the country and take it to another level. Chinese 5000m Runner Has Fast Out-Of-Season Time
Xue Fei, a 19-year-old who won golds at the World Junior Championships and the Asian Games, ran a fast out-of-season 5000m time of 15:02.73, an Olympic “A” standard time, at the Chinese City Games. Fei is China’s best hope for a home-turf medal in middle-distance track.Read more at: [China Daily]
Liu Xiang: Most-Favored Student Status at Chinese University
Olympic Gold Medalist and World 110m hurdles champion Liu Xiang is benefiting from his superstar status by taking “his time finishing his postgraduate and doctoral programs of study at the School of Sports and Health Care (SSHC) at East China Normal University.” Read more at: [People’s Daily Online]
