It boggles the mind, but Mac and Linux users will be unable to watch the NBC Sports / MediaZone webcasts of today’s U.S. Olympic Men’s Marathon Trials and tomorrow’s ING New York City Marathon.
Although some Mac and Linux users were able circumvent the problem in the past, MediaZone has announced on their website that their customer service will not provide support for third-party applications and operating systems.
Man, oh man did NBC and Mediazone drop the ball on this one.
However: Mac and Linux users CAN still follow all the action right here onTheFinalSprint.com!

The Final Sprint
Nobody can watch the event live. It’s a total disaster for the media organizers who hyped up the live coverage… only to FAIL.
November 3rd, 2007 at 8:40 amI have been blocked out from viewing it because I don’t live in the US. I have tried using proxy servers, but they keep timing out. Is there a problem with the broadcast in general?
Thanks Final Sprint for giving us what coverage you can. Now that it is almost over I found your site.
I am not a happy man about this. I got up at 5:30 on a Saturday just to watch this and I am not allowed into their site. On top of my location, I also use Linux and Mac machines. I do have one Windows box, and it is not working with the proxy either.
November 3rd, 2007 at 9:11 amGet with it NBC! Mac and Linux users would like to watch this event. Also your TV coverage this morning was horrible. I just ran the Marine corps marathon and have run seven marathons in the last 3 years. I’m not alone! There were 30K people at the Marine corp marathon. NY, Chicago, Boston, and others have equal or an equal or greater number of participants. I suspect that people would like to see this event.
NBC’s lack of coverage of this event really stinks!
Disappointed in NBC,

This has been so frustrating. I hyped this up to everyone I knew and find that I can’t even watch the event. I live in the US and still am getting the page that says “1. Geo-blocked. This event is only available to viewers within the U.S. If you have reached this page and are attempting to view this within the United States, please contact customer service to report the issue. If you are outside of the United States you are not allowed to view this content. ” I was also receiving “Apache Tomcat/5.0.28″ errors and now nothing at mediazone.com works. The live chat at mediazone said they were having technical difficulties and to check back later. To make matters worse, “NBC Today” comes on at 8:30 EDT and reports “live coverage” at the start of the race. There’s nothing live about it because the race is almost 1/2 over and it’s not available anywhere. Finally, for those of you outside of the US, you may be able to access this race at http://web.wcsn.com. What a waste of a morning.
November 3rd, 2007 at 9:17 amPeterSC, no we can’t watch it at WSCN, they are not broadcasting the Trials, only the NYC Marathon tomorrow.
ARGHHH!
November 3rd, 2007 at 9:29 am[…] Thanks for nothing NBC! Not only was I not able to watch it because of living outside the US, but they reportedly did not support Linux or Mac clients being able to view the site. When I did get connected through a proxy (which was rare since the site was often down with server errors) I got no video. I tried it a few times with the one Windows machine in the house, but only got server errors every time I tried there.
