The competitors will traverse a course with three major hills and overall rolling terrain in front of one of the largest spectator groups in sports. The weather for the event is supposed to be cool and dry, further adding to the possibility of another classic New York finish.

Leading the way on the men’s side will be 2006 New York champion Marilson Gomes dos Santos (BRA), who won last year’s race with a tactically brilliant move in the 18th mile. None of the better known competitors covered Santos’ surge, choosing to wait until later to reel him in. This never happened and Santos ran unchallenged to the finish, winning in 2:09:58.

The 2006 runner-up Stephen “Baba” Kiogora (KEN) will also be looking for victory. Kiogora out-sprinted former World Record holder Paul Tergat to place second last year and also placed third at the 2007 Boston Marathon. His well-chronicled training with the Kimbia group has prepared him to claim a major title. Another familiar face in the lead pack should be Martin Lel (KEN) who won this race in 2003. Lel also won the London Marathon in 2003, 2005, and 2007. He has beaten many of the top competitors here and is currently on top of his game, as evidenced by his victory in the Great North Run (60:10). Another member of the Kenyan contingent is Rodgers Rop, who won the Boston and New York marathons in 2002 and has recently returned to form. Rop helped pace Haile Gebrselassie to his recent world record in Berlin and ran a personal best 2:07:32 in winning the 2007 Hamburg Marathon. Finally James Kwambai, the 2007 Boston Marathon runner-up, should be among the Kenyan front hendrick-ramaala, runners.

Two more big names should be among the serious championship contenders. The first is Hendrick Ramaala (RSA), the 2004 champ who was out-sprinted in the closest finish in New York history (0.3 seconds) in 2005 by Paul Tergat. Ramaala has a great history with the New York Marathon and will be looking to regain his title. Also looking for the win will be reigning Olympic gold medalist Stefano Baldini (ITA). Baldini has ten sub-2:10 performances since 1997 and is consistently dangerous.

With thirteen runners entered who have run 2:11 or better, the 2007 ING New York Marathon should be extremely competitive and entertaining. The winner will have to hold off an incredibly deep field over a challenging course and will certainly have to earn his victory.

On one evening during the trip, Shigeta ordered Biegel and another employee of the company to go on an outing with him but refused to say where they were going, the lawsuit said. On another business trip to Tokyo in October 2004, Shigeta insisted that Biegel and two other employees accompany him to a Japanese bath house where they were instructed to climb naked into a bath with Shigeta, the lawsuit said.
