Elite Men Planning a 2:06 Time in Amsterdam Marathon
Kenyans Jason Mbote (2:08:13) and Paul Kiprop Kirui (PB: 2:06:44) both plan to run new personal bests this Sunday, October 21st, 2007 at the ING Amsterdam Marathon. Mbote said he wants to run between 2:06 and 2:07. The women’s race is expected to be around 2:26. Read more at: [IAAF]

Blanka VlasicBulgarian High-Jump Record Holder Says Her 20-Year-Old Record is Legit
High-Jump World Record Holder Stefka Kostadinova, known at home in Bulgaria as “queen of the high-jump,” expects Blanka Vlašić (pictured at right) to break her 20-year-old record next year and is happy that so many women are making an assault on it. Hungarian Aniko Kalovics to Defend Her Carpi Marathon Title, Run Sub 2:27
Hungarian Aniko Kalovics, who finished 3rd recently behind Kara Goucher and Paula Radcliffe in the Great North Run, will defend her Capri Marathon title this Sunday, October 21st, 2007 in Italy. She hopes to best her personal best time of 2:26:43. Read more at: [IAAF]

Plans Being Made for European Athletics Team Championships
The European Athletics Council met in Malta this week to discuss and finalize plans for a new European Athletics Team Championships that would take place 1 month before the Olympic Games, beginning in 2012. The concept, said European Athletics Vice President Jose Luis de Carlos, will be for an “emphasis [to] be on the country or the team as opposed to the individual athlete, and with the men and women’s points counting towards one team effort.” In addition, “numerous innovations to the rules in both track & field events.” Read more at: [European Athletics]
