Now that Marion Jones has returned her Olympic medals in the wake of her doping admission, the United States Olympic Committee has also asked Marion Jones’ relay teammates to return their medals and promised a “completely clean” U.S. squad in 2008. The USOC request, Jones’ admission and the IOC’s pending decision on how to redistribute the medals has caused a fury of editorials, objections and controversy.

Culpepper aims to repeat at U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials
Alan Culpepper, a member of the 2004 U.S. Olympic Marathon Team, is looking to replicate his success at the Nov. 3 Trials in NYC. In regards to the new loop-course, Culpepper said, “I was fairly shocked when I saw the course; it (the hilly Central Park course) is going to be hard. I am doing more race-pace effort on hilly terrain this time.”

Mexican politician stripped of Berlin age-group title
Roberto Madrazo didn’t win the Mexican presidential election — and organizers said he didn’t win the 55-and-over category of the Berlin Marathon after they realized he took a short cut. ESPN reports that New York based photographer Victor Sailor was the first to realize that Madrazo had cheated. Read more at: [ESPN]

Shorter elected to Colorado Sports Hall of Fame
Olympic gold medalist Frank Shorter was elected to the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame on Tuesday. On the news of his selection, Shorter said: “[The Hall of Fame] is in my home, and in my home state, and it is nice to be recognized from being here.” Read more at: [Daily Camera], [Press Release]

GE to weigh sale of NBC after 2008 Beijing Olympics
The fate of NBC Universal, General Electric’s entertainment unit, will be decided only after the Beijing Olympics, with executives at the US conglomerate ruling out a sale before August’s showcase event, according to people close to the situation.

Adil Kaouch of Morocco given two-year ban for doping
Moroccan middle-distance runner Adil Kaouch, a pacemaker for Hicham El Guerrouj at the 1999 and 2001 IAAF World Championships, was given a two-year ban earlier today by the country’s athletics federation (FRMA). Kaouch tested positive at the IAAF Golden League meeting in Rome on July 13 where he won the 1500m. Read more at: [Fox Sports]
