New York Road Runners today announced an unprecedented level of broadcast and webstreaming coverage for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Men’s Marathon on November 3 and the ING New York City Marathon 2007 on November 4. The two events will be broadcast and streamed around the world via NBC, WNBC-4HD, NBCSports.com, NBCOlympics.com and WCSN.com.
“We are pleased to have such extensive coverage of this unprecedented weekend of marathon running,” said Mary Wittenberg, president and CEO of New York Road Runners and race director of both events. “By providing local, national and international options on both television and broadband of each race, we are better serving our sport’s fan base worldwide. Expanding broadcast options is a continued priority for New York Road Runners.”
On Saturday, November 3, the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Men’s Marathon will be streamed worldwide for free on NBCsports.com, the first time an Olympic Trials event has been streamed live online. NBC’s “TODAY” will cut in live to broadcast the start of the race nationally at 7:35 a.m. EDT, and NBC will air a national half-hour highlights show from 2:00 to 2:30 p.m.
On Sunday, November 4, the ING New York City Marathon will be shown for five hours (9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.) live on WNBC-4HD. Len Berman, Kathrine Switzer, and Larry Rawson will anchor the pre-race coverage, with Al Trautwig, Toni Reavis, and Tim Hutchings announcing the live race coverage, and Ed Eyestone and Juli Henner providing on-course reports. WNBC’s Bruce Beck and Otis Livingston and Runner’s World’s David Willey will cover the race from the sidelines.
Prior to the race, WNBC’s Today in New York will dedicate their entire 6:00 – 8:00 a.m. broadcast to marathon features and live reports from the start and finish, and NBC Sports will broadcast a one-hour highlights show nationwide beginning at 3:00 p.m. EST.
A number of countries around the world will take a live three-hour feed of the marathon beginning at 9:30 a.m. local time. For those not receiving a live feed, a one-hour highlights show will be broadcast in nearly 125 countries worldwide, bringing the broadcast reach to over 300 million people. TWI, the production arm of IMG, which is handling the international distribution of the Olympic Trials, will also distribute broadcast footage of the ING New York City Marathon event worldwide.
Fans throughout the U.S. can follow the entire ING New York City Marathon live online at www.NBCSports.com through global online broadcaster MediaZone beginning at 9:00 a.m. EST on November 4, while World Championship Sports Network will stream the race live internationally via WCSN.com.
