Abdi Abdirahman named USATF Athlete of the Week

abdi abdirahman at 2006 usa outdoor track & field championshipsAbdi Abdirahman has been named USA Track & Field’s Athlete of the Week after winning his third USA Men’s 10 Mile title in a row Sunday at the Medtronic Twin Cities 10 Miler in Minneapolis, Minn.

A two-time Olympian, Abdirahman dominated the men’s 10 mile race, crossing the line in an event record of 47 minutes 34 seconds. He made his move during the mostly up-hill third mile and as he passed eight miles, was up by more than 80 meters and was able to cruise the last two miles to the State Capitol.

Now in its sixth year, USATF’s Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
