Fran Scott, a 49 year old sprinter from Great Britain, was diagnosed with liver cancer last year. That hasn’t stopped him from winning a gold medal in the M-45 4×400m Relay at the 2007 World Masters Championships in Riccione, Italy. Read more at: [South Manchester Reporter]

Tommie Smith, Peter Norman and John CarlosLegendary Sprinter John Carlos at the Center of Jena 6 Protest
John Carlos (right, with left arm raised), who – alongside Tommie Smith – famously raised a black-gloved fist at the 200m medal ceremony in the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City is now lending his name to the Jena 6 protest. Lornah Kiplagat to Defend Title at World Road Running Championships

Kenyan-native Lornah Kiplagat, who is now a Dutch citizen, will defend her 2006 IAAF World Road Running Championship title in Udine, Italy on October 14th, 2007. She has now healed from a calf injury that prevented her from competing in the 10000m Run at the Osaka World Championships. Read more at: [IAAF WRU07]

Arkansas X-Country Will Go For 3rd Straight Team Title at OSU Cowboy JamboreeFifth ranked Arkansas, whose runners have 4 of the top 5 times on the SEC 8K performance list, will look to win their 3rd straight team title at the OSU Cowboy Jamboree. The meet, being held at the Oklahoma State Cross Country Course, has been in existence for 7 years and will host 70 teams. Read more at: [Runners Web]

Tim Borland Continues Pursuit of 63 Marathons in 63 Days
Tim Borland, an ultra-runner and trainer who “is raising awareness and critically needed research funds for A-T,” is a third of the way toward completing his goal of running 63 marathons in 63 days while pushing a jogging stroller. A-T (ataxia-telangiectasia) is “a rare, fatal genetic disease that affects children” and “combines the worst symptoms of cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, cystic fibrosis, cancer and immune deficiencies.” Read more about this amazing man at: [A-T Cure Tour]
