New York City Marathon: Women’s Competition Intensifies
As if a New York City Marathon field that included returning top three Jelena Prokopcuka of Latvia, Tatiana Hladyr of Ukraine and Catherine Ndereba of Kenya wasn’t enough, now Gete Wami of Ethiopia, Lidiya Grigoryeva of Russia, and Tegla Loroupe of Kenya have announced that they will be competing on November 4th. Steve Cram Calls IAAF World Athletics Final “Pointless and Bemusing”

Previews of the Jumps and the Throws at the World Athletics Final this weekend in Stuttgart, Germany are available on the IAAF World Athletics Final website. Cuba Wants Top 10 Finish in Beijing
Cuba is shooting for a top 10 finish in Olympic medals at the 2008 Beijing Games. Although the small nation is a perennial powerhouse in baseball, boxing, basketball and volleyball, all Olympic sports, they are hoping to medal in track & field, wrestling, weightlifting and taekwondo. Xavier Carter To Be Arrested Upon Return to U.S.
Sprinter Xavier Carter will be arrested when he returns to the U.S. from an overseas track meet. He is charged with simple criminal damage to property, a felony. Read more at: [LSU Reveille]
