nyc half-marathon presented by nike logo courtesy of new york road runners (NYRR)The New York Road Runners released the elite fields for Sunday’s second annual NYC Half-Marathon presented by NIKE. NOTE: TheFinalSprint.com will feature videos of every pre- and post-race press conference, one-on-one video & audio interviews with top elites, and of course, LIVE coverage of the race itself!)

Led by two-time Olympic gold medalist, Haile Gebrselassie, the men’s field has three athletes who have broken one hour for the half-marathon distance, and a total of 11 men who have run 62:23 or better.

Catherine Ndereba
, the 2003 world marathon champion who won the inaugural NYC Half-Marathon last year, headlines the women’s field. She’s just one of seven women who have broken the 71 minute barrier (three have run sub-70 minutes).

Former world marathon record holder, Khalid Khannouchi, was forced to withdraw from the race citing a mechanical problem in his stride which had been causing a burning sensation in the ball of his right foot, race officials reported. He and wife Sandra have flown to Barcelona to see an orthodics specialist.

A prize money purse of $70,000 is on offer with $10,000 going to the winners. The course records of 61:22 (Thomas Nyariki) and 69:43 (Ndereba) could be broken if the often-sultry New York City summer weather cooperates, at least for a hour or two.

Last year’s race had 10,294 finishers and the Road Runners expect an even larger turnout on Sunday. Runners will begin the race with a loop of Central Park before taking to the streets of Manhattan, running through Times Square, along West 42nd Street, before turning left on the West Side Highway to finish just north of Battery Park. The first half of the course is decidedly difficult, with several challenging hills, while the second half is flat and fast.

The race will be broadcast live on WABC-TV, New York City’s channel 7. The starting time is 7:00 a.m.

The complete elite fields are posted below, with bib numbers, nationalities, team affiliations, dates of birth, age on race day, and personal best times (with venue and year):
