Allyson Felix, Shawn Crawford and Terrence Trammell will lead a strong U.S. contingent Friday at the Qatar IAAF World Super Tour 2007, part of the IAAF World Athletics Tour 2007, in Doha, Qatar.
The women’s 100m should be a showcase as reigning world 100m champion Lauryn Williams is challenged by Allyson Felix, the world 200m champion. Felix will be pulling double duty as she is also entered in the 400m, where she will face Monique Henderson and Moushaumi Robinson, both of whom were part of the Olympic 4×400m relay team that brought home gold.
Two-time NCAA champion and 2006 USA champion Ginnie Powell will face two-time USA Indoor 60m hurdle champion Danielle Carruthers and 2007 USA Indoor champion Lolo Jones in the women’s 100m hurdles. Tianna Madison, the 2005 World Outdoor champion, headlines the women’s long jump with 2004 Olympians Grace Upshaw and Rose Richmond.
In the men’s 100 meters, 2004 Olympic 200m gold medalist Shawn Crawford and 2004 Olympic long jump gold medalist and two-time world champion Dwight Phillips will compete. The men’s 110m hurdles will see two-time Olympic silver medalist Terrence Trammell take on up-and-comers David Oliver and Joel Brown.
In the field events, 2007 USA Indoor champion Aarik Wilson is in the men’s triple jump while 2004 Olympian Jarred Rome, 2004 NCAA Indoor champion Dan Taylor and 2006 NCAA Indoor champion Garrett Johnson in the men’s shot put. Rome is also entered in the discus throw, where the field includes two-time U.S. champion Ian Waltz.
