America’s Terrence Trammell came away with the win in today’s 110m men’s hurdles at the adidas Track Classic. However, he received a major boost when another pre-race favorite, Aries Merritt, had his starting blocks break; leading to a DNF for Merritt.
Interviewed after the race, Merritt explained his anger over coming all the way to California and not “even having the chance to compete” because of the starting block malfunction. He had expected the official to blow the race dead and call a false start, as they had already done on the prior try, but the officials failed to do so and the race went on.
Trammell was followed by fellow Americans David Payne and David Oliver.
