The women are now heading out of the 5th mile. The 5k split was 16:22 for the lead pacers. The leaders ran a 5:04 third mile (quick because of the first downhill section), 5:15 fourth mile, and a 5:19 fifth mile (seeming to settle into a more settled pace).
Butler, Russell, and Yelling; as experienced runners, are packed together in a threesome to help support each other picking up the back of the lead pack.
The leaders with a 5k split of 16:24 are: Kiplagat, Adere, Johnson, Dita, and Wami. USA runner Russell is in 12th with a 16:51 5k split.
