Episode 42 of The Final Sprint Podcast features my interview with Podrunner’s DJ Steve Boyett.
Ok, ok … I know what you’re thinking: “Why is a music DJ being interviewed on TFS Podcast?”
Good question … A few months ago I received an email from a reader and fellow runner about a workout, music podcast called “Podrunner”. He was raving about these music
mixes and swore that they were responsible for his multitude of recent PR’s. At the time, I didn’t think much of it - but that all changed as a plethora of similarly positive emails came rolling in from readers all over the world.
So I decided to look into Podrunner and learned that, believe it or not, it was nearing it’s 5-millionth download and earned an iTunes People Choice Award in 2006. Although I was still quite skeptical that it would benefit my training, I actually got pretty hooked; finding these hour-long, fixed-BPM workout mixes to be an excellent source of motivation on those long runs and during intense workouts.
Download the podcast to hear DJ Steve discuss Podrunner; how his music mixes are helping to motivate, and even change the lives of, an eclectic group of runners and other athletes; the training benefits of music; and much more!

The Final Sprint
I love Podrunner mixes and can’t go on a run without them!
Thanks so much for interviewing DJ Steve - it was awesome and was cracking me up the whole time!
Steve … YOU ROCK

Thank you very much, Kelly! Between you & me, I’d never run without ‘em, either — more an indication of my attitude toward running than my attitude toward my mixes. :)
I’m glad you enjoyed the interview. It’s so much more fun to be talking to another person instead of staring at that microphone behind a pop screen.
April 26th, 2007 at 7:40 pmI second Kelley’s sentiments!
You are the best Steve!!!
Without podrunner, I would have never qualified for Boston (which I just finished … for the first time … crazy weather and all!)
Thanks again!
April 26th, 2007 at 8:18 pmYou’re hilarious Steve … doing it for the chicks? haha
Thanks for everything bro and great work with podrunnerrrrrr
April 26th, 2007 at 8:24 pmMusic is such an amazing tool for encouraging fitness. Podrunner exemplifies this potential benefit.
April 26th, 2007 at 9:35 pmWow, thank you all so much! Clearly Adam needs to be present whenever I do my Podrunner intros, cuz I’m one long plank o’ knotty pine by my widdle self. He’s a terrific interviewer, I think — I feel as if I’ve known him for years.
April 26th, 2007 at 10:30 pmAtta boy Steve-o … keep the mixes rollin’ …
April 27th, 2007 at 12:29 amYour mixes are great, Steve, and I didn’t 100% realize that you were doing them basically for free too. I have a lot of respect for that, wish you the best of luck and know that something as popular and beloved as Podrunner will eventually lead you to that well deserved payday.
April 27th, 2007 at 6:57 amman o man - i didn’t really know that either.
I am with “lot of respect” on this one.
can’t wait for the next podrunner (esp the exclusive ones - i always seem to like those the best - maybe its psychological tho since not everyone gets them, haha)
Thanks steve …
April 27th, 2007 at 7:06 amYah, they’re free. Sponsorship is much more difficult when you’re dealing with other people’s intellectual property. We’ve worked it out and are actively seeking sponsorship now, but podcasting is still very new, and sponsoring Podrunner a bit more complicated than if it were simply a talk show.
Not to be opportunistic, but I *do* take donations to help out with 600,000 downloads/36 terabytes of transfer per month, and listener support is now only only tremendously appreciated, but essential for Podrunner to continue. Visit http://www.djsteveboy.com/donate.html.
April 27th, 2007 at 10:58 amSigh. The period at the end of the link was included. Here’s a URL that should work: http://www.djsteveboy.com/donate.html
April 27th, 2007 at 11:00 amCool music that I can use for running
April 27th, 2007 at 11:02 amand spin

April 29th, 2007 at 1:01 am“U help me thru even the worst hardest run
And I sure would be lost with you.
With Podrunner I always have fun,
I hope you know we love you too.”
yea yea yea … i’m not much of a poet, haha. But at 6am, when i am getting up to take my daughter to practice - it’s darn good, haha. Anyways, just wanted to send my love from here in upstate NY!!!
