Podcast 38: Interview with prospering American marathoner Peter Gilmore

Episode 38 of The Final Sprint Podcast features my interview with flourishing American marathoner Peter Gilmore.
Peter, who had often been viewed as an underdog, is finally being given the respect and attention he deserves after a series of excellent performances in 2006.
At last year’s Boston Marathon he crushed his previous PR, finished an impressive seventh overall, and (contrary to what I mistakenly assert in the podcast introduction) was third among Americans. He then went on to be the fastest American at the ING New York City Marathon and is now widely regarded as this year’s American favorite in Boston.
In the 25-minute interview, Peter describes being overwhelmed with emotion at the end of last year’s Boston Marathon, the positive impact of Dr. Jack Daniels’ tutelage, being forced (until recently) to work a myriad of part-time jobs during training in order sustain his running career, and how it feels now to finally have sponsors (MarathonGuide.com and Enlyten Strips) and the opportunity to focus exclusively on running.
Download the podcast to hear Peter discuss these topics, why he chose Boston instead of joining the majority of his American counterparts in London, the November 3rd Olympic Marathon Trials, looking up to Bill Rodgers and more!
