kastor_cross_2007_1.JPGI had the honor of being joined by 2004 Olympic marathon bronze medalist Deena Kastor for Episode 23 of The Final Sprint Podcast.

After ending 2006 as the top ranked female runner in the world, Deena returned to her roots and won her 8th USA Cross Country Championship in dominating fashion.

In addition to holding the current American records for the full and half marathons, Deena has also won the Flora London Marathon (2006), LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon (2005), and the USA Marathon Championship (2001).

In the interview Deena talks about her recent XC championship, being disappointed with the second half of 2006, her famous and rigorous training regimen, racing Meb & Ryan Hall, and the upcoming Gate River Run and Boston Marathon.

Download the podcast to hear Deena discuss these topics, her opinions on Ryan Hall and possibly Adam Goucher’s potential in the marathon, the US distance running revival, increasing the sport’s fan-base, thoughts of becoming a mother, her Jewish heritage and much more!

  1. […] (Click here to listen to Deena Kastor speak about trying to beat Meb and Ryan Hall in the “Equalizer” on Saturday!) Keflezighi is indeed entered in this year’s race and is amongst the favorites, but victory is not assured for him in either the men’s or the equalizer divisions. His key rival will be Ryan Hall, the lanky former Stanford star who crushed the North American record for the half-marathon in his debut at the distance in Houston on Jan. 14. On his way to the finish line in Houston in an eye-popping 59:43, Hall passed the 15-K mark of the race (unofficially) in 42:21, one second faster than Todd Williams’s record set in Jacksonville. If Hall can win in Jacksonville and break Williams’s record, he would be eligible for an additional $8,000 in bonuses. […]

She’s such a smart and kind spirited lady. I’m glad she’s experiencing so much success lately. I’m looking so forward to running in her footsteps in Boston this year!

  3. […] Jen is coming off of an impressive performance at the USA 15k Championships at the Gate River Run in Jacksonville, Florida. She finished second to fellow Team Running USA member Deena Kastor. […]
